The basics
What is HireByHour?
A way to hire local people for short jobs, paid by the hour. You post a job, local workers apply, and you choose who you'd like. Every job starts with a one-hour paid trial.
Where does it work?
We're launching in Cumbernauld first, so that's where you'll find the most jobs and workers to begin with.
Do I need to download an app?
No. HireByHour works in your web browser on any computer, tablet or phone: just create an account. iPhone and Android apps are coming soon.
Who can sign up?
Anyone aged 18 or over. You confirm your email address or phone number with a code when you sign up.
Can I both hire and work?
Yes. One account lets you post jobs and apply for them.
Hiring
How does the trial hour work?
The first hour of every job is a paid trial. If it's going well, the job carries on for the hours you booked. If it isn't working out, you can stop after the first hour and only pay for that hour.
Who sees my address?
Before you choose a worker, people only see the area. Your full address is shared only with the worker you accept.
What if the worker doesn't turn up?
Once the start time has passed, you can mark that they didn't turn up. That cancels the job.
Can the job go on longer than I booked?
Yes. Ask for extra time in the app. If the worker agrees, it's added to the booking. We let you both know when the booked time is up.
How much do I pay?
The hourly rate you set, for the time actually worked: always at least the trial hour, and never more than the hours you booked plus any extra time you agreed.
What if nobody marks the job as finished?
It completes by itself 12 hours after the booked time ends, for the hours that were booked.
Working
How do I find jobs?
Browse the list or the map in the app, and filter by distance, rate and skills. Save a search to get an alert when a matching job is posted.
How do I get picked?
Fill in your profile: your skills, some photos of your work and when you're available. Write a short note when you apply, and good ratings from past jobs help a lot.
What happens when I've finished?
Tap "I've finished" in the app. The hirer is asked to confirm, and then you rate each other.

How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Account, then Settings. You can also contact us and we'll help.
