HireByHour

How it works

From "I need a hand" to the job done

HireByHour is for short local jobs paid by the hour: garden tidies, flat-pack furniture, moving help, cleaning and more. Here's what happens on each side.

If you need help

  1. Post your job

Describe the job, give the address, the date and start time, how many hours you need, and the hourly rate you'll pay. Workers see the area, not your full address.

  2. Choose who you'd like

Local workers apply with a short note. Look at their profile, skills, photos and ratings, then accept the one you want. They're given your full address.

  3. On the day: the trial hour

From 30 minutes before the start time you can mark that they've arrived. The first hour is a paid trial. If it's going well, carry on for the hours you booked. If not, you only pay for that first hour.

  4. Need longer?

Ask for extra time in the app. If the worker agrees, it's added to the booking. We let you both know when the booked time is up.

  5. Finish and rate

Mark the job complete when the work is done. You pay for the time worked, never more than the hours you booked (plus any extra time you agreed). Then rate each other.

Post your first job

If you want to work

  1. Set up your profile

Add your skills, a few photos of your work and when you're available. A good profile helps you get picked.

  2. Find jobs near you

Browse jobs as a list or on a map, and filter by distance, rate and skills. Save a search to get an alert when a matching job is posted.

  3. Apply

Send a short note saying why you're a good fit. You'll hear as soon as the hirer accepts you, and you can message them in the app.

  4. Do the job

Turn up on time. The first hour is a paid trial, so you're always paid for at least that hour. If the hirer wants more time, they'll ask and you can say yes or no.

  5. Finish and get rated

Tap "I've finished" and the hirer is asked to confirm. You're paid for the time you worked, and good ratings help you win more jobs.
